Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera is a prosumer camera that was meant to replace the Nikon D80 digital SLR camera. A cross between entry-level and professional-level camera, this digital single lens reflex camera was designed with a few enhancements. Some of these enhancements are a larger imaging sensor, Live View mode and HD Movie mode.
Nikon D90 Digital SLR Camera has 12.3-megapixel DX format CMOS imaging sensor. Working together with Nikons EXPEED image processing technologies, you will be assured of incredible image fidelity. The camera also comes with Nikkor AF-S DX 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens and EN-EL3e lithium-ion battery. Like other Nikon cameras with F-mount lenses, this camera can be used with other Nikkor lenses.
It has one-button Live View shooting mode that activates access to Face Detection Autofocus and two other contrast detection focus modes. Face detection is a feature in Nikon D90 that determines the location and size of a human face in a digital image. It detects facial features and ignores anything else in the background.
It is the very first digital SLR camera with video recording capability. Nikon D90 can record high definition 1280 x 720-pixel videos of up to 5 minutes at 24 frames per second. But if you use smaller resolution, you can have a 20-miniute video. Nikon D90 records videos in mono sound at 22 kHz.
Its CMOS sensor captures video frames using a method called rolling shutter. Rolling shutter refers to the manner in which image is captured sequentially in thin rows from top to bottom, one after the other, over the course of a single frame. This form of shutter mimics the operation of mechanical rolling shutter and is currently employed in certain video cameras that use a CMOS chip to capture light.
It features Active D-Lighting, which is selectable and has Auto mode. Active D-Lighting function has 4 levels that allow you to capture previously lost details in shadows and highlights. For bad images, you can use the new Extra High mode. In addition, it has five advance scene modes as well as Program Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual.
Nikon D90 digital SLR camera has a fast power up of about 0.15 milliseconds with a shooting time lag of just 65 milliseconds. It offers continuous drive up to 4.5 frames per second. It produces different file formats: JPEG, NEF (Nikons RAW, 12-bit compresses), AVI (Motion JPEG). This high precision shutter was tested to over 100,000 cycles. With a shutter this durable, you will be assured of great shutter life and accuracy.
It has 3-inch TFT LCD with 920,000-dot resolution (VGA). It offers high resolution and 170-degree wide angle viewing. It has built-in image sensor cleaning system that uses 4 frequencies to get rid of the dust particles that degrades image quality.
The camera features Multi CAM 1000 autofocus sensor module and 11-point AF system. This enables you to shoot fast and accurately. It features 420-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix Metering II and Scene Recognition System. These features help you evaluate images and accurate exposures, which you can reference with the 30,000 sample images.
Nikon D90 digital SLR camera has low noise ISO sensitivity from 200 to 3200 (100-6400 with boost) and a support for the optional GP-1 GPS unit for automatic real time geo-tagging. Other optional accessories include ML-L3 wireless remote control, MC-DC2 remote cord and MB-D80 battery grip.
