What is Digital Photography?

Digital photography can be described as the creation, manipulation or production of photographs which are represented by bitmaps. Digital photography is an art and also a science and the digital photographs can be created in different ways. One method is the direct photography by the use of a digital camera. The other method is by frame capture from a video clip and another method is by conventional photograph scanning. When a photograph is in the digital format, one can apply diverse special effects to the photograph with an image enhancing software.
These digital photographs can be altered, manipulated, printed, archived, displayed, transmitted as well as storing through computer and digital techniques without the need for chemical processing. The film photographs which are chemically produced are higher in resolution than the digital photographs. This low resolution makes these digital photos good for situations that require instant pictures. Low resolutions pictures are also needed for the display of images in the Web. This is meant to enable easier downloads due to the webs nature of handling low resolution pictures and graphics.
There are many advantages that are associated with digital photography and they have support due to its image quality that is acceptable. Many photojournalists utilize the digital photographs because of the importance of beating the deadline for the daily newspapers editions. Magazines can also use the digital pictures. There are mobile phones today that are accompanied with cameras that are digital and can be used to take the digital photos to upload to an internet site, send to a friend via email or from one phone to another.
Amateurs and commercial photographers are now moving with the tide and joining the digital world. These photographers are no longer using the film-based cameras but are now using the digital cameras even with the strong belief that the film photos are of a much more quality than the digital photos. They are still using these cameras even with the price tag that comes along with it.
The digital pictures are created by a digital camera which stores the photographs in an in-built memory or a removable memory card. The data can also be saved in other memory devices such as flash disks, CD-RWs, as well as floppy disks that are uncommon. Their major use is transportation of the data to a computer. These digital cameras can have direct connection to a printer and photographs can be produced without using a computer.
