How to Get Amazing Pregnancy Photographs

Every pregnancy is a special time that will be over all too soon, leaving behind little other than memories. The transformation our bodies go through while we're pregnant is an amazing one, but it can also be hard to remember after the daily routine has returned. One way to create a tangible reminder of your pregnancy is by photographing it.

This type of photography presents an incredible opportunity to capture images of our bodies during this truly magical time period. Pregnancy makes us both incredibly strong and incredibly vulnerable, and we can obtain visible proof of this period of our lives on film. Years later, you'll be able to look back on your pregnancy.

During this period, we already have a developed bond with our babies, and it's a bond that shows up in pictures taken while you're pregnant. If you'd like to capture that bond on film to look at later on, you should consider photographs. Here are some tips to help you make sure that your pregnancy images are beautiful ones.

1. Decide if the photographs will be taken on their own, or if your partner or any other children will also be in them. Talk to each person who's to be in your pregnancy photos about what this means to you and what you'd like from it. Also talk to your photographer about what you expect.

2. Decide how fully clothed you'll be - some women prefer a partially or fully nude image to show the changes their bodies have gone through. However, if this is an option that appeals to you, both you and your photographer will need to be certain that you're comfortable with it.

3. Schedule your photo shoot late in your pregnancy, since your belly may not be evident early on. Just don't risk running short on time. Remember to take into account the fact that you may need frequent breaks if you're very far along.

4. Be sure that you're comfortable with your photographer and that he or she knows what you want and need and has a lot of experience with taking these types of images. Someone with this kind of experience will know how to take images that capture your special time.

5. Be sure you remember that your belly is the important part of these images, and that you avoid any distracting accessories or clothing. Semi or fully nude photos will require you to remove elasticized clothes about two hours before the shoot to avoid red marks on your body.

If you'll remain clothed, choose clothes that accentuate your breasts and belly - overly large clothes will hide them and look sack-like. Avoid lotions or moisturizers that could make your skin overly shiny. Consider wearing light makeup and having a manicure done before the shoot, as well.

Think about including baby items in your pregnancy photos, including toys, family items that the child will have, or clothing. These add more evidence of the special bond between you and your baby.
